Authorities say Bieber was drag racing with R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff. Both pleaded not guilty to DUI charges.
Though Bieber’s blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit for driving – making it a misdemeanor charge – authorities say drugs were also found in his system.
Bieber was also charged with driving on an expired license and resisting arrest without violence.
Several outlets report that a plea deal is expected on the DUI charges, and in return most of the other charges will be dismissed.
Reports also indicate the reason why today’s court appearance has been so long in the making is because Bieber’s lawyers and the judge were arguing over the fact that the judge wanted the singer to appear in a public service announcement video denouncing drunk driving.
